School based Library programme was operational in about 700 Municipal schools of Delhi during 2010- 11. As part of this programme, children were assisted in learning to read so that they can access story books and read on their own.. The pedagogy followed with grade I & II children was referred to as R1 while the one followed with grade III-V was refereed as R2. In some schools, intervention was confined to children of grade III-V only.
The reading level of children was taken at the beginning of the programme in July-August 2010 and the level was again assessed in March 2011. A class-wise analysis of the progress made by children during one academic session is presented here.
Total Tested Children in Std- I are 16724 from 390 MCD schools.
Except for the reduction in the children who were at nothing level, there is not much progress in this class segment.
Total Tested Children in Std-II are 18494 from 390 MCD schools.
In this class segment, increase in simple paragraph and sentence reading children is about 22 percentage points
Total Tested Children of Std- III are 51660 from 703 schools.
A new category of advance story was added from grade III onwards.
Total Tested Children of Std-IV are 58842 from 703 schools
Total Tested Children of Std-V are 58019 from 703 MCD schools
