  • These were the schools where 90% of the children were on can read level in Class 5.
  • There will be separate teachers for teaching the Class 4 and Class 5 content.
  • These 2 teachers will take the responsibility of 2 schools.

This initiative was launched in those schools (14 Schools) which have very high reading profile. Till now Pratham’s initiative has largely been remedial in nature. But this initiative targets those children who have the potential to do exceptionally well, given the right kind of encouragement. MCD conducts scholarship exam every year for its children in Std IV and V. Candidates for this are selected by Schools themselves. With the consent of the schools, we placed two volunteers at two schools (one for std IV and one for Std V) to take extra class with the short listed children during school hours.

Assessment: A baseline test was conducted of children of Class IV and class V. It was prepared on the same lines as that of the Scholarship exam conducted by MCD. The children were tested in 4 subjects namely – Maths, Science, Hindi and Social studies.

Training and Curriculum: The trainings of Pratham teacher-volunteers for this programme were conducted in the last week of November for all the four subjects. Monthly test papers have been designed on the basis of the contents covered during the given month.
